Connecting to Computer

i have an xbox 360 pro and ive had it for about a half a year now, but just recently ive decided to try xbox live. so i decided to use an ethernet cord to connect it to my computer which is running windows 7 and bridging the connection with a wired connection from my phone to my computer. it worked perfectly fine on my girlfriend's xbox which is an original xbox 360, but when i try it on mine it just freezes up at the xbox logo when you first turn it on. i really need help because im pretty sure the warranty is void on it because i bought it used, and i dont want to have to pay to ship it off and get it fixed.
