Rumor: PlayStation 3 Error 80010514 Spreading Widely By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar" Share This Article Apr. 9th, 2008 9:17 pm The "Red Ring of Death" affecting the Xbox 360 has been a nightmare for Microsoft. It has cost lot of money to the company, as it was forced to extend the system's warranty to cover this technical problem, which is rumored to have a failure rate as high as 16%. Most systems experiencing this glitch started to fail months after they were acquired, so it remains to be seen what would be the actual consequences of the RROD. Now, the PlayStation 3, which shipped a year after the Xbox 360, may be the next system to experience a systemic hardware failure. Threads describing an 80010514 error for the PS3 have started to pop up in different forums across the Internet. It seems this error is associated with a malfunction of the Blu-ray Disc drive, which wouldn't come as a surprise considering this next-gen optical disc technology is relatively new and it is still being developed and improved. Interestedly, at the time of this writing the PlayStation.com forums are temporarily closed... We'll have more on this as it develops.

It's not the Blu-ray drive. It's a bad firmware installation or corrupt HDD. Obviously info about PS3s on a site with Xbox in the name can't be taken seriously.

hey teamxbox is a good site.
Got a question from reading that article though, this part where it says "3) When installing firmware and/or software, make sure you follow the instructions. Even if you have installed 6 versions prior, each one is different, and may require additional steps. Save yourself the headache and just follow them, it only takes a minute or so longer to do it right." What kind of instructions do you have to follow? With the 360, as you know, everytime theres an update or anything, its automatically installed and you never have to do anything. Im just confused as to what they are talking about...

Ya, updating the firmware on PS3's kinda sucks...It takes you to a screen where you have to agree to the license and all this bullshit, then it starts downloading it, then once it's finished you have to restart your console to install it, then go through a bunch more pages of bullshit which includes instructions and stuff...But either way, I've never read the instructions and my PS3 is fine...
But I guess there is a good side to the PS3 updates too. They occur frequently. They are constantly adding features. None of this once or twice a year shit like the 360.
