Why is it I suck so bad at MP?

I know the majority of everyone is going to post up something smarta$$ but seriously why do I suck so much? I'll hit some one point blank range like five times and they just turn around and melee me and I drop like a sack of potatoes. Is there something i'm missing or am I doomed to getting my ass handed to me everytime?

I'm good at killing but I suck at staying alive. I sometimes have the most kills but I almost always have the most deaths and the least time spent alive.

It takes time, I was awful at Halo 2 when i got it this summer but I got better and I am great at Halo 3.

You have to keep in mind that the ppl you are playing on live have probably spent hundreds of hours playing Halo 2, and many many hours on Halo 3 already. So they already have a whole ton of experience that you dont. Try playing agaisnt people with really low ranks untill you start getting used to it because starting out playing agaisnt high ranked people isnt really going to get you anywhere because you'll just be constantly dieing.

I went and found the Xbox live ambassadors in my state and only one responded, but he belonged to a whole website community. So he played with me and a few of his friends from the site. We pwned it up but we have yet to play again. I really want to play rocket mongoose, spies vs mercs, and many more of those classics again. :/ No one wants to play.

If they are meleeing you, then why don't you do it first? Or keep your distance so they can't melee you. I get about 30% of my kills by melee.

Yes 1 shot (with specific weapons) and a melee is usually a kill. Instead of emptying a clip and a half, shoot half the clip and melee them. Or if they are disorganized or confused, melee them in the back (instant kill).

Or if there is some n00b that isn't playing, repetitively seek him out and assassinate (melee from behind) him.

I played for about 4 hours last night (GF went for a run and then some basket party) and worked up to consistantly worked up to 8 kills per game. A far cry from the 0-2 I was averaging last week. Slowly progressing, Damn it fun. Oh but damn I got owned once. Dude jumped of a ledge while I was back pedaling, changed from the sniper rifle to the shotgun in midair and blew my brains all over the place just as he landed on me. Ouch!
