Gnome users are idiots.
It's possibly the worst DE that I've ever used. It has like no advantages. The only thing it has is stability, but that's just because it's exactly the same today as it was when it launched. Either way, you can use KDE apps with Gnome...it might look a little out of place (I personally don't really notice) but it will run the same.

gnome is not for idiots, idiot. open office is fine for me, and i hate the new dolphin manager shit in kde 4, like when you remove something from desktop it doesn't do anything because its a stupid shortcut and its still on desktop but you cant see it unless u go to the desktop folder. i installed kde 4 and i hate it.
the only program i like from kde is ktorrent.

It is for idiots. It has nothing. It has nothing new. It's all old stuff that restricts your options, because it is for idiots. And with it being ugly, having no features, etc you would think that it would at least be light weight. But it's not. It's bloated and slow.
I haven't used Dolphin enough to make a good judgement of it, but it is definitely better than that Nautilus shit. But I guess I could say that about pretty much anything... In all previous versions of KDE you can place files on the desktop, but putting a shortcut there is more logical anyway. And if you don't like KDE then there are still other options. Xfce is greate. It looks great, functions great, and is very light weight. Or FluxBox. It's extremely light weight, very functional, has a very intuitive tabs system, and the customizability is endless.

It's really not that hard to use a different DE. You sound like a fuçking Windoze user.

So...you don't have to rid of any of that stuff...you can simply install another DE on your current installation. Or if you did do a fresh install for some reason then you could always leave your current partition up until you transfer stuff to the new one...or if you did what you should and have a separate /home partition then you wouldn't have any problem...

apt-get --purge remove kde-desktop (I think that's what the package is called?)

Why don't you just go STFU and sit in your corner. You probably think Gnome is something that sits in your garden.
