Definitely not to increase the number of posts in this thread to make it closer to surpassing TTR's thread...

Now make some suggestions! I need money!

interesting concept dont think it will happen though

Quote:
Is Steve Jobs preparing to launch a smaller, cheaper version of the iPhone in time for Christmas?

That’s the rumor — based on a brief item in London’s Daily Mail — that had Apple watchers buzzing over the weekend. “Report: iPhone nano to ring in the holidays” read the headline on Crave, CNet’s gadget blog. “iPhone Nano Rumor Brings Hope Alive,” wrote iPhone Savior. “Holy rumor, Batman,” shouted Crunch Gear, “iPhone nano to be released by Christmas.”

The idea that Apple (AAPL) might eventually introduce a family of iPhones of different sizes that sell at different prices is hardly new. A rumor that an iPhone nano would be launched before Christmas 2007 was making the rounds just over a year ago (see, for example, MacRumor here).

But the timing was wrong last summer and, according to Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, this summer’s rumor is also a bit off.

“Just as the company slowly diversified the iPod lineup and entered lower price points with every new version,” wrote Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster in May, “we expect Apple to launch new models of the iPhone at lower price points in calendar year 2009.”

Julian Ivan-Alexander, a London-based investor who moderates The Mac Observer’s Apple Finance Board, expects Apple to eventually launch three or four variations on the iPhone. Writing under the byline Tommo_UK, he led a spirited discussion of the pros and cons of an iPhone nano on AFB last summer. Reaction there over the weekend to the new rumor was largely skeptical. Although an iPhone that retailed for say, $99, would break open the market to a huge block of new customers, Apple has no reason to sell one as long as people are still lining up to buy a $199 model that Apple can’t turn out fast enough to meet demand.

“This rumour still doesn’t make any sense to me for this year,” wrote a British investor who calls himself sleepygeek. “Taking features out of the current iPhone loses $10 or more of revenue for every $1 saved in build costs. iPhone Nano would have to outsell iPhone by a large factor (5 -10 times the sales) to make sense.” (link)

The Daily Mail item suggests that the new phone will be available in British shops by Christmas for 150 pounds (just under $300). It doesn’t offer any supporting evidence beyond an unnamed “industry source” who is quoted saying that “a cut down version [of the original iPhone], with the candy bar shape of iPod nano music players, would be a huge hit as a Christmas gift.” (link)

The London tabloid, which is better known for celebrity gossip than technology reporting, also cites an “expert” who suggests the nano phone would have a touch wheel on the back and a display on the front so that numbers would be dialed from behind. Apple filed a patent last year for a device that resembles this, but nothing came of it.

One wag on AFB suggests that Apple might also introduce a “shuffle” version of the iPhone. It would clip to your lapel and dial phone numbers randomly.

How would that work? See the (tongue in cheek) video below the fold.

world smallest snake, wow this thing is small

Quote:
The world's smallest snake—and perhaps the smallest possible snake—has been discovered on the Caribbean island of Barbados, a new study says.

At about ten centimeters long (less than four inches), the diminutive reptile might easily be mistaken for an earthworm, and could comfortably curl up on a U.S. quarter, researchers say.

A second new species, only slightly larger, was found on the neighboring island of St. Lucia.

Genetic tests and studies of the snakes' physical features identified the animals as new species, said biologist Blair Hedges of Penn State university, who led the study team.

Both new species belong to a little-known group of known as thread snakes—also called worm snakes and slender blind snakes. Short and slender, thread snakes burrow in the soil and live on a diet of insect larvae.

Small Victories

Finding the smallest snake completes an odd trifecta for Hedges, who also led the teams that discovered the world's smallest lizard and smallest frog.

"The frog and lizard are also found on Caribbean islands," he said. "But [my] describing all three [for science] is somewhat of a coincidence."

Unfortunately the smallest snake—which Hedges calls Leptotyphlops carlae—may be on the verge of extinction. It appears to be live on only a few square kilometers of forest on Barbados, where almost all the original forests have been cleared.

"I think it should be considered critically endangered because of its limited habitat, apparent rarity, and ongoing threats," sad Hedges, whose study will be published tomorrow in the journal Zootaxa.

Island Dwarfism

The world's roughly 3,100 known snake species show an enormous range in body size, from the Caribbean thread snakes to the roughly 30-foot long (10-meter-long) reticulated python.

But there is no point. It looks retarded, and is retarded. What would they limit on it anyway? There would have to be something to make the regular iPhone better. And there isn't much to limit.

LMAO!

BIG SUR, Calif. - A tourist is nursing only cuts and bruises after sliding 250 feet down a cliff on California's coast.

Twenty-year-old Jost Ben of Wilnsdorf, Germany, had been tossing a football with friends Sunday at a traffic pullout perched 400 feet above the Pacific. After a stray toss, he climbed over the edge to retrieve the football.

Monterey County Sheriff's Sgt. Garrett Sanders says Ben "just started sliding." A sheriff's team rappelled down, strapped Ben to a harness and helped him scale the cliff.

Ben was treated for a gash to his face and other cuts. He wasn't able to recover the football, but Sanders noted: "He's lucky he's alive."

------------

SALINAS, Calif. - A pickup truck thief lost his purloined Chevy Silverado to an armed carjacker during a 7-Eleven stop. Police Cmdr. Kelly McMillin said "you couldn't make up something stranger than this."

A 33-year-old man told police he stole the pickup Saturday then, while sitting outside a convenience store, a man with a gun hopped in and ordered him to start driving.

The pickup ran out of gas and the gunman ordered him to get out and push, but the man managed to run away and call police.

Police spotted the pickup on Sunday and the gunman was arrested after a brief chase and crash.

LMAO! this one is the best!

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The sauce for a spicy Italian sandwich was apparently a must have for one Florida man. The man, Reginald Peterson, called 911 twice after a sandwich shop left off the sauce.

Peterson initially called the emergency number Thursday so that officers could have his subs made correctly, according to a police report. The second call was to complain that police officers weren't arriving fast enough.

Subway workers told police that Peterson, 42, became belligerent and yelled when they were fixing his order. They locked him out of the store when he left to call police.

When officers arrived, they tried to calm Peterson and explain the proper use of 911. Those efforts failed, and he was arrested on a charge of making false 911 calls.

Peterson did not have a listed phone number.
