I figured I would make this so that I don't piss off TTR anymore.
Anyway, I just installed Debian Linux, and I love it, I would use it as my main Linux distro, (I use Mandriva now) but there is the damn problem that I always have with Linux that really frustrates me and keeps me from using it as my main OS. There are no drivers for my wireless card. I spend days trying to find a way to use it, but fail most of the time. One time I was able to get it working in Ubuntu, but it stopped working a few weeks later. I've tried ndiswrapper, but it always says that the driver is invalid or something and never works. The only reason I use Mandriva is because it is the only thing that I have found that works without any configuration, and with 100% consistency with my WiFi card. I don't actually like the rest of it much. If I could get it to work then I would probably switch to Debian, or many others that I place ahead of Mandriva. As a result of this I have been considering buying a cheap laptop that has 100% Linux compatible hardware. The only problem is that doing that would mean that I won't get a MacBook Pro for a while. :/ I'm also considering removing my Windows partition since I rarely use it and feel like puking when I do, but I know that if I do there will be some Windblows only app that I need to run, and I like to have it for testing stuff to make sure that it will work in Windows when I'm doing some kind of school project since every computer at my school runs Windoze. I guess I'll go continue my search for a way to get this damn card working. Off to Google.com/linux Edit: I've been looking at the Dell Inspirons. I've never bought or been a fan of any Dell products, but these are extremely sexy, (well, not compared to Apple's hardware, but nothing is) and they ship them with Ubuntu. (I would of course take Ubuntu off, (Ubuntu is for n00bs) but that way I'm not supporting MS or paying extra for licensing of something that I will immediately remove) The biggest reason why I'm considering it is that it is garanteed to work with Linux. Plus the price is perfect. Its only about $1,600 maxed out. |

Hey Bash, do you use Emacs, or Vi? I'm learning Emacs right now, it is rather intuitive. I can't believe that its methods haven't caught on and being used as the standard.
About the PC I'm getting, I think it will be this HP dv2500t. It would be maxed out of course. ![]() Specs: (the way I will have it built, not stock) CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7500 2.2 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB RAM - 4GB HDD - 160GB GPU - 64MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS Display - 14.1" Widescreen 1280 x 800 Fingerprint Reader Webcam Mic Intel PRO 3945ABG WiFi Bluetooth Lightscribe Double Layer DVD-R 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery Total Price: $1,577.99 I will be getting probably about $60 off of that price though, because for those of you too damn stupid to read the EULA when you boot your Windoze PCs, it states that if you disagree with the license to contact the manufacturer of the PC for a refund on Windows. (if they don't state that then it is illegal tying) Then I can put that label I made in the artwork thread on it. Damn Windblows tax! ![]() |

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop.
Paint you seem to be interested in computer stuff. When you are in college, are you going to be majoring in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or for the business side of it, Information Systems?

Edit: Lawl, Bash, you're such a n00b. Emacs and Vi are console based text editor that are more efficient than standard text editors, and favored by programmers and such. And I do hate Windows. Thats why I'm going to get a refund on it, and install Linux. |

Ah Computer Science is more programmer based, and Web Development. Don't ask me how I know this.

Your right I majored in it for awhile in college until I switched to history. It is a lot of math and learning binary and code and bs. If you are a total computer person who has the math skills then go for it, if not there are other majors that involve computers you can try.
