Bought this for my son as told new solder work done and this stops the overheating !! duhhhhhhhhhhhh. Got it on day of Release however end April ring of death , bloody ridiculous . Sent it back to there credit did get it back within 5 days with 1 months live membership. Would rather have had working machine than token gestures . Any other elites done the same ? thanks

the Elite has a smaller failure rate then the normal 360's, so the Elites failure rate isnt 1/3....

the Elite is the same as the other consoles now, yes. But the Elite didnt come out untill a lot later(no ****in kidding) Most of the elites made have been made with at least the Falcon chip set. The original Elites were made with the same old set. The falcon chipset has a lower failure rate then the rest of the 360s.

The Falcon didn't come out until quite a while after the Elite. (and even after it came out it was only in the Premiums for a while (and even after they started putting them in the Elites they weren't putting them in all of them)) Anyway, assume that half of them had the Falcon, and half had the Zephyr. (and that's probably a false assumption, there are most likely more with the Zephyr) That's still over 20% of them that have failed.

The first reported Falcons were in September, and that was only with Premiums, so yes it had the older chip. But that doesn't mean that your current one is a Zephyr because MS doesn't send you back your own console.

yea they could have(could be?) send(ing) you back an even older one! However, the chances are better that you will be getting a newer one..Newer doesnt necessarily mean Falcon however..There are ways to find out if your console has the Falcon chipset in it or not. It involves something along the lines of using a flashlight to look into your console and looking for some pipes or something. Dont know exactly. A quick google search will tell you. Or perhaps paint might remember...

do you think its worth buying the coolers for the console does that seem to help , on reading it is the overheating aspect on the solder , so do you think the extra fan is worth buying
