Hey Guys,
Iam new to console gaming (always been a PC gamer.) But I decided to go to the darkside and get a 360. However, I have a week or two to decide if I want to go premium or elite. I know the differences, but what I need to know is if the extra 100 bucks is really needed in the 360 world. I plan on playing Live but wasn't sure if there was going to be soooooo much content to download I would have to constantly be shuffling game files in and out, depending on which game of the month I was playing. Thanks all for your insight. |

Hey, glad to hear your buying a 360! Personally i would use the 120GB. Everytime i go to download something i first have to go into Memory and make space on my 20GB HDD because its always full. We dont even have the Video Marketplace here in Canada yet, so my HDD isnt even filled with movies and TV shows, simply demos, videos and XBLA games.
The extra $100 isnt needed but depending on you, you might want it.

I wouldn't def. go with the Elite if I were you. The extra space is really nice not needed but def. worth having. And.. it's black.. looks way better.

It really depends on what you want to use it for. I just download some demos play them, delete them, download trailers, download, and delete them, I stream all my music from my computer, etc so 20GB is fine for me. But if you want to download HD movies and stuff then definitely get the Elite.

yeah, i mostly just download the arcade games and there is plenty of space for it on my 20 gb harddrive. i have about 10 games and i have a lot of the space left. if i download a demo after im done i delete it, but that bioshock demo is a biggie over 1 gb, that'll be on there until tuesday tho when bioshock comes out!
so, it all depends. if you dont feel like managing your downloads by deleting demos, trailers, etc. then you can get the elite. but if you manage the harddrive by deleting that stuff once your done, you will be fine with the 20 gb. |

I say it was jus microsofts way of pocketing extra money, and also, the halo 3 xbox 360 console, such a waste of money. They put the regular 360 out, then turn around and add 2 more to their collection, they are money hungry.

Hey I'm new to the forum and I'm not trying to hijack this thread but since you guys were on the topic of the differences between the normal Xbox 360 Premium and the Elite I also had a few questions that maybe you guys could help me with.
I like the topic starter was always a PC gamer and I recently got introduced to Halo 3 and I'm obsessed about that game so I MUST buy a 360. That would be the reason I would be purchasing a 360. As for the size of the hard drives that the 360's come with (20 and 120) if I were to save Halo replays since that is what I'd probably be playing 24/7, how much space does replays even take up? Or can you even save replays from Xbox Live Halo 3 matches? I assume that it's possible because of video clips I have seen on youtube and such. Maybe someone that plays Halo 3 can assist me in this area. Second major question is the famous red rings of death. It's probably spoken about a lot and before you flame and tell me to use the search feature, I have. I did some research cause if I invest such a large sum of money in a system, I'd like it to work for a while. I understand the first batch of 360's when it was released, 1 in 3 had the red ring of death errors and apparently microsoft changed something inside (cpu? processor? heatsink?) or something which is suppost to fix this red ring of death error or reduce the chances of it in the second batch. My question is if everytime microsoft creates a new batch of 360's do they upgrade the cpu? processor? heatsinks? to better ones everytime? Like, did the Elite come out after the second batch of 360's that were 'fixed' by the upgrades get upgrades as well? Does the Elite have a lower rate of receiving the error? better cpu? better processor? better heatsink? I went to a local gamestop and asked them if the Elites had a lower chance of getting the error and they told me microsoft fixed all systems (I guess the newer ones that are currently being produced) and they don't get the red rings of death error anymore. Wow. I typed a lot. Sorry about that haha. I appreciate any input in this topic. Thanks. EDIT: oh and I forgot to say, I don't really need to download movies or anything of that nature on my 360. That's what I use my computer is for haha, so my 360 would be saving game stuff only. oh and I read if you move the 360 while gaming, it may also scratch the game disk. This happens cause of the cd reader or laser or something inside it doesnt have a rubber peice that hold the disk in place or something when the cd is spinning. Does newer systems also fix this problem? |

Wow that was a fast reply. Thanks for all the information.
Haha. I don't plan to move my 360 while playing but it's just a worry I have. I mean I plan to keep my 360 on my desk and that's about it. But if the problem occurs it would be a pain to replace a lot of games. If you are correct about the Halo replays store on servers. What are the hard drives for? Just saving Solo play and things of that matter for games? (other then downloading cause I don't plan to). And that's sorta weird if it's store directly to servers. With so many Xbox Live matches constantly going on, how can Microsoft store all that data of every match? Unless there are private servers? Man, all these errors that 360 has has got me down. =( I want a 360 so bad so I can halo. I don't even own the system and I have probably played it for probably about 24 hours of it in my entire life and I'm addicted to Halo 3 like crack. I have even had a dream about Xbox 360 and halo 3 last night. -_- |
