Mass Effect is amazing.
If you like Sci Fi, and have played any bioware game and liked it (especially Star War KoTR), I know for sure you'll love this game.

Mass Effect is worth whatever money, it has the brilliance of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The graphics that must come from heaven. The story line of Star Wars but 20x better, and of course the combat and leveling system, the combat is the best thing in the game, why? Because who dosn't want to send an enemy flying in the sky and disintergrate them with bullets? The leveling system I think is better than that of KOTOR.
