According to a report by EB Games store manager hardware faults for the 360 console still outweigh that of other consoles.

"On initial launch, it was close to 30 per cent of our [Xbox 360s] were coming back faulty".

Source

Ofcourse take this with a pinch of salt due to the 'anonymous source' but they are alarming figures all the same.

The overall calculated failure rate of Xbox 360 consoles Worldwide (not just in Australia) is 33% - 1/3 of consoles will die.

It won't be until fall 2007/mid 2008 that 65nm chips will be used, and possibly late 2008 to mid 2009 until the 45nm chips will be used. (Lower power consuming chips, lower temp)

There is quite a bit of stuff going around, even the the chip stuff is true, some xbox's that have been in repair due to hardware failure (linked to overheating and melting) have been opened up, repaired and installed with extra heatsinks. Not only that, but if you're fortunate to have one break under warranty by late 2007/Q2 2008, then not only will you get a better cooling system and heatsinks but you'll probably get a cooler, more efficient 65nm processor chip.

Peace

FX
