I've read a smattering of news articles pertaining to a new 65nm process and improved hardware that'll prevent the RRoD although I'm not sure of the specifics.
I just want to buy a 360 for a few games in mind but I sure as hell don't want to buy a Refurb or a "Used" console because if my cynicism serves me well then I know I'll get the RRoD lol Any advice would be appreciated Thanks --Nechen |

the 65nm chip is supposed to start being put in the 360s sometime in 2008, so if you want a 360, i would definately not get a used one. just get one from the store with the 3 year warranty. its better than waiting a year for the chip.

Is the 65nm going to be any kind of move forward or advancement in performance or is it just to crank down the wattage and temps?

I would get one. If it breaks you have a 3 year warranty.. just send it in. I would say get the Elite though. My friend has had his since they came out and he hasn't had a problem yet. *goes and knocks on wood*

It doesn't seem that way. It runs way cooler.

I'm just telling you what I experienced. The Elite runs cooler than the premium and core. I know, I have had both.

paintba||er is correct..the Elite is exactly the same inside the black box. There is absolutely no difference whatsoever. Ask M$, they will tell u it is the same.
As for the OG poster, i would say get one now. Theres no telling when the 65nm models will actually hit store shelves, and the this new chip isnt going to prevent the RROD like everybody thinks it will. It will only make the system run a little cooler, your chance of getting the RROD might be slightly less since it wont get so hot, but nobody will know till its out. Considering you will have a 3 year warranty anyways, i would say buy one now.

Well, it might be the same. I am telling you it runs cooler. Trust me, I can tell when they are both on my floor.

Although the Elites currently do not have the 65nm processors, the motherboard's have newer transitors, some of which are smaller. Other than that, all the features are the same. Tested with laser thermometers, both the original and elite clocked in at 128F or 53.3 Celsius. That is actually really hot. The processor on my computer, which is overclocked and cooled only by fans, runs at 34C or 93F. These temperatures are not terribly dangerous, but I could see this putting a lot of wear and tear on the electical components. I am DEFINTELY waiting for the 65nm 360's to come out. You can clearly see the difference in the Elite and Original motherboard in these photos: ELITE MOTHERBOARD: ![]() ORIGINAL MOTHERBOARD: ![]() |

Those temperatures seem off too, though I have no idea. I'm damn sure that my 360 is a lot hotter than my computer and the CPU on my PC is 142° F right now...... |
