I am just curious, is it necessary to use the xbox 360 wireless adapter?

I have nothing against the device, other than the fact that it cost $100. I can get a much better adapter for half of the price.

If you cannot use a different device, why? I am just curious how microsoft has prevented people from buying other devices, or using notebook wireless adapters.

not sure if u can use another one, i dont think you can. The reason? Cause M$ wants your money of course...I do agree though it is way over priced.

Woo! 500 posts!

Yeah, it is a good way M$ can make money.

When I said "why" I meant why will others not work. I should have clarified that.

woohoo congrats on 500.

Actually, I just realized that other devices would need a driver to work. That must be why.

Duh.

probably something they have programmed in. Its prob done the same why they stopped other Vision Cameras being used on the 360. I plugged my PC one in and it didnt work, you can only use the 360 one.

EDIT: just read your other post that u posted while i was writing this. Yup that would be the reason, same with the Vision Cam

yea i dont think you can use anything except microsofts, but i would just get a wired one thats what i do, i got a 50 foot cable for 20 bucks. 20 vs 100+40 for router unless u already have one, still beats the price by 80 bucks.

hahaha carmine

yeah Greg, I agree going wired will save $$, but I would like to put my 360 on the second floor of my house. My router is located on the first floor

I could still get the wire to my upstairs, but I would hate running cable through my wall just go get my xbox online. It seems a little overboard hehe.

I could just run it up the stairs to my room, but that also seems a little crazy. I don't want people tripping over the cable hehe.

my router is on the 1st floor, back left side of the house. My XBOX is on the 2nd floor, front right side of the house. I use wired, not wireless. I dont have the cable going through my walls, and i dont have the cable running up the stairs. We simply put the cable through the wall next to the router, ran it up the side of the house, over the roof, down the other side and into my room through a small hole we made in the wall. It works perfectly. It was a lot cheaper then going wireless, and i have a more stable connection.

nope the cable is an outdoor weather proof cable, so it doesnt get damaged at all.

I just found a linksys (i love linksys products) game adapter that is $50 that is compatible with xbox live (it is listed on the xbox website).

I am definitely going to buy that.

eh they might be, idk if the one he found will be as reliable as the actual product made by microsoft, but it would always be good to try it out i guess
