Hey guys. I'm relatively new to the 360 in terms of hardware, but I've heard alot about the red ring. I've been doing some research seeing as I'm thinking of getting a 360 soon, but there is no real way to prevent it.

This has probably been asked many times on this forum, but should I buy the 360 now? Or should I wait and see if they make a solution to the problem. Hopefully the introduce a new 360 with less hardware issues. Does the elite attend to the hardware issues?

Oh, ok. Is it just a matter of some people being unlucky and get faulty machines, or is every machine defective and it's just down to luck when your machine breaks down sooner rather than late.

well the newer consoles dont get the RROD as often(which indicates a general hardware failure i believe) because they are being made better, so if you buy one now you will have less of a chance of it rrod'ing on you, but basically as long as you take care of it, keep it in a well ventilated area, then you should be fine. Some machines theres just no preventing it, they just fail right off the bat, but thats only a small percentage, and thats with any hardware, although probably more so with 360s.. The Elites are just as prone to the RROD as any other console, they just dont seem to fail as much because there are a lot less of them out there.

There is nothing you can do about the RROD, just get one enjoy the hell out if it and send it back for another one when it breaks, you will have 3 yrs so there is nothing to worry about. Thats basically what I did.

Yes, 1/3 is a very small percentage.

If you get a Halo 360 then there is a chance that you may get one with a 65nm processor, which doesn't solve the problem, but makes it much less likely to occur because it doesn't generate as much heat.

All new 360's on store shelves today are 65nm cores. They have lots of internal fixes and run a lot cooler. I think the RRoD is behind us.

When you buy your 360, you can check to see what is has by visiting
http://scrutator.lo2k.net/uri62801-x...c-premium.html

You can search by the codes on the box and see all the details of whats inside before opening it. That way if you bought someone's old 360 sold as new, you can return it unopened for a complete refund.

Source? As far as I know only the Halo consoles are 65nm, and not even all of them are. I've yet to see a Premium, Elite, Core, or Arcade that has been confirmed as a falcon. I've seen a few people who seem to think theirs is 65nm just because it is quieter, but that is a result of the BenQ DVD drive. The only way to be sure is to get a flashlight and look through the vent to find a copper heat pipe.

There also aren't "lots of internal fixes." Its just a smaller processor, and a WORSE heatsink.
