I had my 360 flashed about a year ago and have 2 copied games. I have several real games which Ive bought since gettin it flashed probably because I just couldnt be bothered with the hassle of copyin the games. Its easier to walk into game and buy a second hand version of Forza Motorsport 2 for instance for 25quid..
Ok my question is fairly simple I have never gone online but have been told that if I do now that the console is chipped microsoft will ban the console shuttin it down essentially..
Now is this just if you use the copied games?? or is it the machine the check??
In other words would I be able to go online and just never use copied games just use the real ones????
If not thats life I suppose.
Forza 2 rocks btw. So damn addictive!!!

So is it chipped, or flashed? You mentioned both?

If it is flashed then you must always be sure it has the most current undetectable firmware before going online with a legally bought game. (don't go online with a pirated game)

If it is chipped and the chip can be powered off then just turn it off before you go online.

If you get caught I believe they just ban you from Live, I haven't heard of them bricking consoles yet.

Its flashed not chipped, sorry.
I've heard different opinions on this though someone told me that if I go online now that its flashed I'll be caught and someone else is tellin me that I can go online but make sure I only use real games and that way I cant be caught...

if you go online with a modded console, your XBOX 360 will be banned, aswell as your XBL Account.

You will receive this blue message of death:

There is no way to unban the console either, once it is banned, its gone forever and theres no way for it to be unbanned. Making a new XBL account will not work, as it is the console that is banned. The only thing to do is to go out and buy a new XBOX 360.

But you won't get banned if you have the latest undetectable firmware, like I've already said.

Because you can save much more than $500 by modding it. If you download seven games then you've already saved as much as the console would cost. I would probably mod mine if it weren't for the hardware issues...

I think what paint means is he doesnt want to mod it because of the RROD. If you mod your console, you wont be able to send it in for repairs.

I've thought of it, and maybe I'll mod mine more towards the end of its life when MS already has a bunch of games out for it and are focusing on the next console.

If MS pulls what the pulled with the first xbox and choose not to support the 360 anymore, then I'll get it modded and get all the games for free I can.

Couldn't you just reflash it with the standard firmware rather than getting a new one?

Exactly.

Yea I would imagine they would have a firmware to fall back on. I personally wouldn't load some crap firmware if there was no way back. If there is a standard firmware then it would be kinda neat to tinker with a hacked firmware just to mess around.

Here is something a quick google got me:
This is a firmware hack, not a physical mod.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/15/x...s-older-discs/
"apparently mod your 360's DVD drive so that it'll work with just about anything you can put in it, including "backup" discs made for both the original Xbox and the 360. According to about seven pages of posts on an Xbox forum, the hack does indeed seem to work, but only with 360s that have a Toshiba/Samsung DVD drive"

Note that the date of that article was from 2006
