So I'm brand new to the Xbox scene, and have been searching these forums, as well as a few others for information about the 360. Unfortunately I have a few questions I can't seem to get.
1.) I am on my way to buying my first xbox 360 console. I am a very casual gamer, usually spending most my time on 1 maybe 2 or 3 games at most. I would like to play on Xbox Live, but will probably not spend much time downloading or streaming videos/ music. Should I go with the Arcade console, or is it worth it to upgrade to the pro with 2 free games etc? Searching these forums has given me mixed opinions, however most my friends say to go for the pro. 2.) I currently own a Wii and a PS2. The ps2 was bought as a dvd player and it does it's job fine. I understand the 360 can play dvd's out of the box, correct? I also own a Samsung 32 inch HDTV and it has slots for HDMI AVI, S-Video Cable, and Component. Will the component cables with the Premium edition allow me to game in High Def (720p) or will they just give me 480p? 3.) I have read alot about the new 65mn Falcon consoles. What are the chances of me picking one up if I buy at a time like now. Have most of the defective consoles faded out by now? If not Microsoft offers me a 3 year warranty on RRoD correct? Thank you very much to anyone who answers. Much appreciated! |

1. It is really worth it to pay the little extra to get a HDD IMO, but I suppose the memory card will be large enough for two or three games if you don't plan on getting any demos, DLC, or anything else from the marketplace.
2. The 360 can play DVDs, and can output 720p with the component cables. Note: The Arcade doesn't include component cables. 3. Look at the label on the side of the box for 175W before you do that. If it says 175W it is guaranteed to be 65nm. ![]() |

1) I would recommend upgrading to the Pro because it is worth it. It may cost $100CDN more, but think of what you are getting for that extra $100. You are getting a 20GB HDD, valued at $120CDN last time I saw, 2 free games, which are both good, valued at $39.99CDN each. Those are just the main things you get with the Pro, I dont feel like getting into the other smaller items you get with the Pro such as cables..So for that extra $100 your paying, your getting $200 worth of material, effectively saving yourself $100. So by paying an extra $100, you save $100.
2) By upgrading to the Pro you can play in HD out of the box, if you buy the Arcade, you will be stuck in SD untill you go out and buy cables to be able to play in HD. 3) The chances you getting a new Falcon console by buying a 360 now are almost 100% guaranteed(trusting your buying brand new from the store) But as paint said, be absolutely sure you check the side of the box before buying the console to be guaranteed it is in fact a Falcon model. M$ offer a 3 year RROD warranty on ALL consoles, even the Falcons. So no matter what you buy, you will be covered under the 3 year RROD warranty, and a 1 year anything Warranty.

My Elite came with a HDMI cable. Their only $10 at most anyway. All you need is a cheap one. Their digital, so either the information gets there or it doesn't (all or nothing).
Also the Pro comes with a wireless controller vs a corded controller with the Arcade. And all consoles today are Falcon. They swapped to the new Falcon sku in September. So unless your buying a 360 from the back shelf at "Big Erl's Game shop" you're almost guaranteed to get a Falcon. |
