Rumorang: Goldeneye coming to Xbox Live Arcade 97 Comments by Justin McElroy Jan 9th 2008 11:00AM Filed under: Retro, Microsoft Xbox 360, First Person Shooters Resting their cred on "very reliable sources" and evidence that they claim to have seen, Xbox Evolved is reporting that Nintendo 64 classic Goldeneye will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade shortly before Activision (the current 007 IP holder) releases their new James Bond title. The news comes (according to the site) after an agreement between Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios and Activision. XE says the game will feature new graphics and online multiplayer, and that other Rare games may be in the pipeline like Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark. OK, sounds great, but is it true? We have no evidence one way or the other, but we think it would at least make sense for all the parties. Microsoft gets more solid XBLA titles, Rare (which is owned by Microsoft) reminds people of the company's glory days and MGM gets more publicity for James Bond. As for Activision, well, we already know they're not above pimping out a license for cash. We'll keep you updated.

Holy shit that was like the Halo of the last decade for me. See I miss useless cheats like Big Head mode and Paintball mode.

LMAO those were awesome modes...
This is definately one of my all time favourite games and I seriously hope it comes to the Arcade and they dont **** it up. A few months back, my friend actually bought the game, he had never played it before. We were at EB, he saw it and picked it up. I was like Why the hell are you getting this? He said Well I've never played it before and its one of the best games. I couldnt ****ing believe he had never played it before. So, we went back to his house, popped his 'brand new' Goldeneye game into his N64(with the last dudes phone number written on the cartridge lol) and we played it for ages. This was sometime last year, dont remember when.

I still remember the part where Boris pulls on kind of bullshit and runs away screaming "I'm invincible!!" I was like wtf until I saw the movie just last year.

Yea those modes were awesome. That was freakin' awesome. I guess they'd incorporate the cheats as rewards for getting achievements.
I don't even remember how you got the cheats, wasn't it by doing special tasks? |

Beating levels under certain times, getting all objectives on 00 Agent, etc.

GoldenEye 007 for XBLA canceled because of money?
In the latest EGM issue, it was revealed that there was a discreet effort on the Microsoft camp to bring the classic GoldenEye 007 back to life on the Xbox Live Arcade. Two months before the project's completion, the project would be canceled for totally mysterious reasons. A lot of us were left wondering how something that could have made a lot of sense (and money) could be scrapped. In a new site post, 1UP would reveal some possible reasons why. According to 1UP's post, original devs Rare Ltd. and publisher Nintendo initially had a pact with Microsoft to have the title come back in XBLA form with the same graphics, maps, and the addition of online multiplayer play. The deal fell apart, apparently, when Microsoft and Nintendo couldn't agree on the part where money was involved. It was explained that there could have been two options: First was a one-time deal where Nintendo would receive a hefty sum. Another option was for Nintendo to get periodic cuts on what the game makes over at XBLA. Both options had their pros and cons, but for some reason, the two game giants never came to terms. We have no way of confirming if this was true, but knowing Quartermann's reputation, his predictions and rumors are right most of the time. It's a shame that this piece of gaming history couldn't be brought back. At least not at this point.
